Hello! I'm Alex. I'm an illustrator and cartoonist with a particular interest in observing the quirks and absurdities of modern urban life. I'm the illustrator of the children's picture book Pop!, written by Jude Rogers. Some other prouder moments as an illustrator include the chapter illustrations and cover for the memoirs of veteran journalist Bill Deedes, and regular cartoons, book illustrations and a board game for the cult London magazine Smoke: a London Peculiar.

My secret identity is as a film academic with a doctorate in horror cinema (yes, really) who has taught at UCL, King's and Greenwich. I research and write on joyous topics including science fiction and horror cinema, anime, censorship, fan cultures and social media.

I live in Walthamstow, east London, with my wife Helen, our energetic and sticky-fingered little twins, a big greedy cat, and a lot of coffee beans.
